Week 3: Action Research Plan!


School Vision: Smith Middle School provides an engaging and rigorous learning environment through the collaboration of the entire school community. Our supportive atmosphere promotes critical thinking and problem solving so students will be prepared to meet the demands of an ever-changing society.

1. Provide introductory training to all reading and language arts teachers in the philosophy and implementation of Differentiated Instruction in the middle school classroom.

Pre-assessment: Teachers will be assessed at the beginning of the training to see what they already know about DI. “Experts” will receive a more advance training while “novices” will receive the introduction to DI.

Post Assessment: All participants will complete a survey using “Survey Monkey” to evaluate the training, what they learned, and questions they still have.

  1. I LOVE this, Susan!! I really like the idea of helping the teachers implement DI one step at a time based on their readiness. I think this going to be key if we really expect teachers to use DI effectively. I honestly want to do this, and I think your plan will be a great framework for us to use as we begin the school year. SUPER JOB! I wouldn't change anything except to add meetings with the other CCIS teachers periodically so we can all problem solve together. :)

  2. Great idea for the pre and post assessment of teachers! I am "stealing" that same idea to incorporate in my plan. The way you've set this up will really allow you to individualize for teachers based on individual readiness; because of that I don't think you will frustrate teachers, and your more "ready" teachers can also serve as model teachers for those who are less ready to try it out. In addition to sharing with other content CCIS on your own campus, I would like to see a piece that includes sharing across campuses with CCIS in the same content as you.
